

These skills could then be used to successfully convey the significance of their scholarly work to a broad audience, whether that’s at the upcoming Grad Slam competition in April, in a research talk at an academic conference, or at some other public venue. The aim of the inaugural workshop, hosted by the UCSB Graduate Division, was to help graduate students and postdocs improve their communication skills, build confidence, and form connections with an audience. These were UC Santa Barbara graduate students and postdocs, learning the fundamentals of stage presence in Drama Instructor Jeff Mills’ four-hour “Stage Training for Academic Presenters” workshop on Friday, February 20. Some of Jenni’s hobbies include, reading, going to the theatre, swimming with her kids, and watching her sons play soccer and baseball.They walked like elephants, buzzed like bumblebees, swam like a school of fish, and hugged like long-lost friends. When she is not spending time with her husband and 4 children, Jenni directs and choreographs musical theatre programs in Streamwood. She attended both the College of Dupage and and Western Illinois University and was a member and choreographer for both dance companies. Jenni started performing at the age of 4 and hasn’t stopped since. Jenni has over 25 years of experience in Early Childhood education including the last 5 years in a special education elementry classroom. Jenni Is so excited to teach her first classes with SOS. Our instruction, Jenni Scholz, specializes in teaching theater to children and will use a variety of techniques to build confidence on and off the stage all while having fun. A small monologue or dialogue scene will be prepared for presentation at the final session.


Geared toward those just starting to show an interest in acting, this class will focus on creativity through Improvisionational Theater Games and exercises in diction, projection and stage presence. Theater Skills I: Wednesdays from 6 30 pm to 7:45 pm from September 7th- October 12th Ages 8 to 12 years old.
